Terms of Use
Effective October 9, 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and OpsAcceleration LLC, a California company ("we", "us"), which runs Backyard Comp at backyardcomp.com ("the service"). By creating an account, joining a comp, or otherwise using the service, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.
If we run a competition for you in person ("We run it" or bar events), that's covered by a separate agreement with you. These terms cover the website and app.
1. Who can use it
- You must be 18 or older to create an organizer account.
- Anyone may take part in a comp as a player or spectator if the organizer invites them. Children may take part only with the permission of, and under the supervision of, a parent, guardian or other responsible adult.
2. Your account
Give us accurate information, keep your password to yourself, and tell us if you think someone else has got into your account. You're responsible for what happens under your account and in the comps you create, including by anyone you give a co-organizer PIN to.
3. Organizers
If you create a comp, you decide who gets the link and codes, and you're responsible for:
- the people you invite and what gets posted in your comp;
- getting permission from people before posting photos or videos of them, and from a parent or guardian before adding a child's name or photo;
- removing anything in your comp that someone reasonably asks you to take down.
4. What you post
You keep ownership of the names, posts, photos and videos you put into Backyard Comp. You give us permission to store, copy and display them, and to use them to make your comp's highlight reel. This is only so we can run the service for you and the people in your comp. It ends when the content is deleted, apart from copies in backups or storage that take time to clear.
Don't post anything that:
- is illegal, threatening, harassing, hateful or sexually explicit;
- shows or describes a minor inappropriately;
- shares someone else's private information without their permission;
- infringes someone else's copyright or other rights.
Photos are viewable by anyone who has their link (see the Privacy Policy). We may remove content or comps that break these terms, and we may look at a comp to deal with a report.
5. Playing safely
Backyard Comp keeps score. It doesn't run the games, and you take part at your own risk. Many games are physical: running, throwing, water, heights and contact. Game rules in the library are suggestions, so adapt them to the people, place and weather you have.
- Look after each other. Check the space, use a spotter for anything in or near water, supervise children, and stop a game if someone could get hurt.
- Alcohol. Drinking games are only for people of legal drinking age (21 in the United States). Nobody should ever be pressured to drink, there should always be a non-alcoholic option, and nobody should drive after drinking.
- Food contests. Watch for allergies and choking hazards, especially with kids.
6. Settle it and scores
The coin, wheel, duel and other "Settle it" games, and all scores and standings, are for fun and to decide friendly arguments. Don't use the service for gambling or betting.
7. Using the service fairly
Don't try to get into comps or accounts that aren't yours, interfere with the service, or use it to send spam. Don't copy the service or use automated tools to pull data from it.
8. The service is free, and may change
The app is currently free. We may change, add or remove features, or stop the service, and we'll try to give reasonable notice if we do. If we ever introduce paid features, we'll tell you the price before you're charged anything.
9. Ending things
You can delete your account at any time from the app. We may suspend or remove an account or comp that breaks these terms or puts others at risk.
10. Disclaimers
The service is provided "as is" and "as available". As far as the law allows, we make no promises that it will always be available, error-free, or that data will never be lost, and we disclaim all implied warranties, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. Keep your own copy of anything that matters to you, such as an exported highlight reel.
11. Limit on our liability
As far as the law allows, OpsAcceleration LLC is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for any injury, loss or damage arising from taking part in any game or event, whether or not it was organized using Backyard Comp. Our total liability for any claim about the service is limited to $100. Some places don't allow some of these limits, so they may not all apply to you.
12. Your responsibility to us
If someone makes a claim against us because of content you posted, a comp you ran, or your breaking these terms, you agree to cover our reasonable costs of dealing with it, to the extent the law allows.
13. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be handled in the state or federal courts located in California, and you and we agree to those courts' jurisdiction. Before going to court, please email us. Most things can be sorted out that way.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We'll change the date at the top, and for material changes we'll tell organizers by email or in the app before they take effect. If you keep using the service after that, you're agreeing to the new terms.
